Basic Instructor: October 6 – 10, 2008 (Mon – Fri)

This course will provide the participant with the basic tools to research lesson plans, put them together in a teaching format and then present it in a classroom setting. This course meets the requirements set fourth by TCLEOSE for an officer to receive their instructor certificate.
Experience with Microsoft Power Point is strongly recommended.
Firearms Instructor: October 13 – 17, 2008 (Mon – Fri)
Fee: 40.00 Class size is limited to 15 students.
This course meets the minimum standards set forth by TCLEOSE to for qualification of a firearms instructor. Students must meet a 90% qualification score at the start of this course to continue. Students will need a shotgun, semi-auto and revolver pistol.
Students must possess a valid TCLEOSE instructor’s certificate and a copy must be furnished at the beginning of class to the instructor. Students will need to bring:
- Revolver; (250 rounds of ammunition)
- Semi-auto pistol; (500 rounds of ammunition)
- A shotgun (12 gauge); (50 rounds of ammunition)
- Duty gear; and
- Body Armor (which is mandatory)

Field Training Instructor: November 10 – 14, 2008 (Mon – Fri)
Fee: $25.00 40 Hours Class size is limited to 20 students.
The primary function of the FTO is to provide service within the patrol area. The list of duties the FTO will be called on to discuss, demonstrate, and supervise are numerous and include: patrol techniques, notebook writing, public relations, report writing, accident investigations, traffic control , emergency and pursuit driving, crime detection and crime prevention. Students will be instructed on the evaluation of trainees and the importance of a structured evaluation. The course will also provide training on the different phases of the FTO program, as well as program restrictions and adjustments. Topics to be covered will include a history of FTO programs, a presentation on model FTO programs, a discussion of the role of the FTO, civil liability, communication skills, teaching techniques, training categories, a task check list, standardized evaluation guidelines, documentation, evaluation errors, remedial training and evaluation, termination recommendation and much more.
Radar Certification: TBA
Fee: No Charge 8 Hours
This class will instruct you on the operational procedures for Doppler and Laser Radar Units. Proper courtroom testimony for radar use will also be covered. It is recommended that you take this course at least once a year as a refresher!
Defensive Driving Course: October 6, 2008 (Mon)
November 7, 2008 (Fri)
Fee: No Charge 6 Hours
Each attendee will receive a certificate for attending this course, which will qualify them for a discount on their personal auto insurance. Each student will also receive 6 hours TCLEOSE credit for their attendance of this course.
Basic Police Mountain Bike: September 22 – 26, 2008 (Mon – Fri)
Fee: $40.00
