Sergeant Nansel began his Law Enforcement career in 1981 as Corrections Officer with Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Tucson, Arizona. By 1984 he had been promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was sent to the Arizona Law Enforcement Officers Advisory Council, General Instructor School. Sergeant Nansel began to teach Defensive Tactics in the Sheriff’s Department Basic Academy and also developed lesson plans to teach in the Departments In-Service Training Program. This lead to his transfer to the Training Academy as the Corrections Training Supervisor. In this position he and his staff managed the Basic Training Curriculum, Advanced Officer Training and administered the Corrections F.T.O. program.

In 1987 Sergeant Nansel was commissioned as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. In 1988 he accepted a position as a Deputy Sheriff in the Patrol Division. He served his Department as a Field Training Officer and a District Detective. For over seven years he was also assigned to Special Operations Division as a Patrol and Narcotics K-9 handler and Unit Trainer. Part time duties included assignments working with the Gang Unit, Metro Narcotics Task Force, Fugitive Investigative Strike Team, and the local DEA Task Force. Also serving as a S.W.A.T. Team member, Officer Nansel was trained in Dignitary Protection where he worked on protection details for the former Prime Minister of Israel, Transportation Secretary Federico Pena and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Over the last 22 years Sergeant Nansel has obtained eighteen Law Enforcement Instructor Certificates in Defensive Tactics, all Impact Weapons, Stun Guns, Physical Fitness Evaluation, Firearms, High Risk Stops, Advanced Patrol S.W.A.T., K-9, Advanced Narcotic K-9, S.W.A.T. Hand Signals, Police Emergency Driving, OC Aerosol Projectors, Chemical Munitions, Specialty Impact Munitions and Distraction Devices. Sergeant Nansel specializes in the areas of physical proficiency skills and tactics. He has taught at Federal, State of Arizona, and Municipal law enforcement academies. He has co-instructed at several national training seminars.

In 1998 Sergeant Nansel relocated to Humble, Texas and accepted a position as a Police Officer. His assignments have included Field Training Officer Community Resources and S.W.A.T. Team leader. In 2004 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned as a third shift supervisor and S.W.A.T. Team Commander. Sergeant Nansel is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College and holds a Master Peace Officer Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Sergeant Nansel is continuing his formal education by pursing a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice with studies in Psychology and adult learning behavior.
