The awards that are displayed on this web site are the authorized decorations worn on the Humble Police Officers class “A” dress uniform. The awards represent the officer’s service, while also recognizing their individual accomplishments during their service to the citizens of the City of Humble. The awards are a visual means to outwardly display the highlights of an officer’s career.

Each award, along with a certificate, and a written citation outlining the officers actions that merited the award are officially presented to each of the recipients by the Chief of Police. These award presentations take place each year at a formal banquet held by the Humble Police Association.

Medal of Honor may be awarded to any Humble Police Department Employee who distinguishes himself or herself by displaying extraordinary heroism, unselfishness and courage, while fully aware that his or her life was in danger. The award may also be given posthumously to an employee who has died while involved in action of demonstrated heroism.

Medal of Valor may be awarded to any Humble Police Department employee who exhibits unusual courage in the performance of his or her duties. The situation must involve unusual danger to the member and the member must be aware of the unusual hazard as well as demonstrate obvious self-sacrifice.

Meritorious Service Commendation may be awarded to any individual member or team or to members acting as a team, for distinctive accomplishment under adverse conditions with some degree of hazard to the safety of the member or members.

Life Saving Commendation may be awarded to any Humble Police Department individual member or team or members acting as a team, in recognition of acts that contribute to the saving of a person’s life. In cases where the victim regains a pulse, award of this commendation is dependent upon the individual’s successful recovery and discharge from the hospital.

Police Purple Heart Commendation may be awarded to any sworn member who in the necessary performance of law enforcement functions, on or off duty, receives serious bodily injury. This award does not include injury in motor vehicle accidents unless special circumstances are determined to exist by the board.

Chief’s Commendation of Merit may be awarded to any Humble Police Department employee for performance resulting in improved operations, outstanding community service, or substantial savings in organizational cost. This award may also be granted to other law enforcement agencies or civilian City of Humble employees. This Commendation will be presented at the discretion of the Chief of Police and is not reviewed by the Commendations Committee.

Distinguished Commander may be presented to any supervisory level officer for distinguished command as demonstrated by exceptional and courageous command during critical times or a critical incident, which required extraordinary police service.

Community Service Commendation is awarded to an individual member or to members acting as a team for rendering an extraordinary and continuing service to the community in an off-duty capacity and without risk to personal safety.

Department Award of Achievement may be awarded to any Humble Police Department employee for an outstanding act or achievement that brings credit to the Humble Police Department. It involves performance above and beyond that required by the employee’s basic work assignment or exceptional professional skill and conduct during a coordinated action. The award may also be awarded to any Humble Police Department sworn employee for exceptional investigative work that brings credit to the Humble Police Department.

Officer of the Year recipients should demonstrate and continually promote the Department’s goals and mission. Areas of consideration should include exceptional work ethic, expertise and integrity, superior overall performance in his or her areas of responsibility, initiative to take on commitments above and beyond the call of duty, exceptional ability to interact with peers and the public in crisis situations as well as day to day activities, and exceptional contributions to the Department and community.

Detective of the Year recipients should exemplify the Department’s goals and mission. Areas of consideration should include exceptional work ethic, expertise and integrity, a superior ability to interact with the public during investigations, ability to manage caseload and expedite investigations, exceptional interview and interrogation abilities, and interagency cooperation that helps ensure the successful prosecution of criminals.

Exemplary Service Commendation awarded to a Humble Police Department member, unit, or team who has been recognized by a Federal, State, or Municipal Governmental entity, or by a civic organization for outstanding service or achievement that has reflected great credit upon the individual and the Humble Police Department.

Bachelor Degree is worn by any sworn member that has earned their Bachelor Degree from a recognized and accredited college.

Masters Degree is worn by any sworn member that has earned their Masters Degree from a recognized and accredited college.

Intermediate Certification is worn by any sworn member that has earned their Intermediate Peace Officer Certification as awarded by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

Advanced Certification is worn by any sworn member that has earned their Advanced Peace Officer Certification as awarded by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

Master Certification is worn by any sworn member that has earned their Master Peace Officer Certification as awarded by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

FBI National Academy is worn by any sworn member for the successful completion of the general course of instruction afforded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, the United States Department of Justice at Quantico Virginia.

LEMIT is worn by any sworn member for the successful completion of the professional course of study prescribed by the Leadership Command College at Sam Houston State University.

Military Service Commendation is awarded to any sworn member who has honorably served in any branch of the United States Military, including reserve status, completed their tour of duty and received an Honorable Discharge.

Crime Scene Investigator is worn by any sworn member that has successfully graduated from the National Forensic Academy and has also been certified by the International Association of Identification as a Crime Scene Investigator, in addition to other courses of study that may be required by the department, and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

S.W.A.T. is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Special Weapons and Tactics Officer and is an active member of the Humble Police Department S.W.A.T. team.

Negotiator is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Negotiator and is an active member of the Humble Police Department Negotiations team.

Physical Fitness Commendation is awarded to any sworn member that scores an overall average of 90% or higher per Coopers’ standard chart. Officers must qualify semi-annually to continue wearing the Physical Fitness bar

Field Training Officer is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Field Training Officer and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

Instructor is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Police Instructor and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

Firearms Instructor is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Police Firearms Instructor and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

Accident Reconstructionist is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Police Accident Reconstructionist and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

Bike Patrol is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Bike Patrol Officer and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

Dare is worn by any sworn member that is certified as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.

Intoxilyzer is worn by any sworn member that is certified as an Intoxilyzer Officer and is actively being utilized in this capacity by the Humble Police Department.
